Renewable energy: powering our future.

Luss Estates has a proud heritage of investment in renewables, from mid-scale projects such as the Glen Douglas Hydro scheme to our biomass boiler supplying energy to our hotel.

Glen Douglas Hydro Scheme.

Situated at the start of the Scottish Highlands with its impressive topography and substantial annual precipitation, we are able to reduce Luss Estates’ carbon footprint by harnessing water as a powerful natural resource.

Luss Estates’ initial hydroelectric scheme is a 1MW ‘run of the river’ scheme, located on the River Douglas, where an impassible natural waterfall excluded migratory fish such as salmon and sea trout.

Biomass scheme - Loch Lomond Arms.

Our in-house biomass boiler supplies heat to the Loch Lomond Arms and self-catering cottages via a woodchip fuel source. In the future we plan to supply woodchip from our own forestry supply, thus creating a virtuous circle of renewable energy.

Arrochar Community Hydro Project

In 2018, Luss Estates gifted land close to Arrochar to support the construction of a community hydroelectric scheme to support the communities of Luss, Arrochar and Tarbet. Profits are distributed equally and are aimed towards local projects.

Since the completion of the Arrochar Community scheme, the first dividends have been paid out on the positive performance in year one and two.
