Our Forestry is our future.

Luss Estate’s woodlands cover approximately 4,300 acres and encompass commercial forestry and native woodland.

“Commercial forestry at Luss covers approximately 2,600 acres, predominantly in Sitka Spruce. Some 1,200 acres of land in commercial forestry is leased on longstanding agreements to investment companies and is certified as sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council. Luss Estates is in the process of expanding its in hand commercial forestry, with recent new woodland creations of 500 acres in Glen Douglas and 200 acres in Glen Fruin.”

Native Woodland.

As part of our commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment, Luss Estates is investing in an active management strategy of our native broad-leaf woodlands. Through a program of improvements and renewals, we are excluding browsing animals in order to encourage natural regeneration and under-storey development. In turn, this will improve the natural habitat for native flora and fauna. Alongside supporting biodiversity, one of the long-term goals of this active woodland management is to provide firewood for the environmentally friendly biomass boiler, which supplies the heating and hot water for our hotel.

Luss Estates has been expending significant effort and cost in endeavouring to control invasive species such as rhododendron and Japanese knotweed both on the islands of Loch Lomond and on the estate as a whole.
