Commercial planting for good.

This project sought to establish approximately 200 hectares of commercial and broad-leaf forestry at Tullich, in Glen Douglas, at the northern end of the estate.

Compensatory Planting

In a unique development, Luss Estates engaged with a local windfarm operator, to offset the high initial outlay in planting such a large woodland scheme. The windfarm developer was seeking to offset deforestation on their own site to make way for turbines and to increase windspeeds. The developer was required to compensate this deforestation elsewhere and in Luss Estates, found a willing partner with available land to spare.

Native woodland is an essential ingredient

Luss Estates were keen to ensure the new planting scheme was sympathetic to the local environment, and took steps to factor in a significant percentage of native forestry including oak, hazel and birch to maintain consistency with the ancient Caledonian forest that lies nearby.

“Forestry at Luss Estates is all about commercial and native species co-existing harmoniously.”
