Phase 2 Peatland Restoration on Luss Estates

As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment we are thrilled to have an official grant offer from SNH to put in place phase 2 of our Peatland Restoration Project.

Work will concentrate on re-profiling 30km of peat hags in order to reduce further erosion and encourage the peat surface to recover. Once recovered, the peatland will be able to re-absorb Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere. 

Peatland restoration also aids biodiversity, as it is an important habitat, and has the further advantage of assisting with flood mitigation in the Loch Lomond catchment as recovered peatland is able to hold a far greater volume of water.

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park have chosen to concentrate on 5 environmental objectives from now until 2020 under their Wild Park project. Alongside peatland restoration important work is also being carried out on red squirrel conservation, reduction of invasive non-native plants, black grouse conservation and the management of native woodlands. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park are managing the peatland restoration work on behalf of Luss Estates, along with four other key sites in the park area. The project is being funded by the Green Stimulus Fund, which is Scottish government funding, adminstered by the SNH.
